Vellore: Six security guards of Tamil Nadu Explosives Limited factory at Katpadi have been suspended in connection with alleged smuggling of sandalwood trees worth Rs10 lakh from the factory premises by an Andhra Pradesh based gang according to district forest officer Manjunath.

The DFO, who conducted the enquiry, said they had obtained some leads about the gang and were working in coordination with their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh to nab them.

He said the department suspected that some factory workers might have helped the gang smuggle the trees out from the 750 acre premises.

The trees are maintained by the forest department and factory security personnel.
