A six-month-old baby girl was kidnapped by her domestic help in Satellite area on Sunday. But police officials acted swiftly and rescued her from Rajkot railway station. The kidnapper allegedly confessed that he kidnapped the baby in order to demand Rs2 lakh for the treatment of his mother, a cancer patient.

According to Satellite police, six-month-old Anushka was kidnapped by one Amit Jain, a domestic help who was working for the family for the last eight days. Police said that the kidnapping occurred on Sunday afternoon, sometime between 1:45 and 2pm.

The child was wearing a diamond-studded earring and a gold bangle worth Rs45,000 at the time of the incident.

After looking for the baby for almost one-and-a-half hours, vexed parents approached the police. At 3pm, police lodged a case of kidnapping and started rescue operation. In the FIR, the infant's mother, Ekta, a resident of Asawari Tower, near Fun Republic, stated that the child was last seen with the accused. The child's father Sanjay Kanchandani is a well-known builder and owns several factories.

According to police, they caught Jain and rescued Anushka by 8pm from the Rajkot railway station. The girl was immediately sent to hospital for medical check up, where she was declared fit.

Sources say the culprit was probably trying to run away to Bhopal, his native place. "During the investigation, Jain said that he wanted Rs2 lakh for the treatment of his ailing mother," said the source.
