Six children drown in mishap in River Narmada in Gujarat

The bodies were recovered and have been sent for post-mortem. The case has been registered and investigations are on, police said.

Six children of a family, including four girls, drowned in the Narmada in Jaghadia taluka of the district on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the incident took place in Tothitra village of Jaghadia. The children had come to the village with their families to attend a marriage function and had gone to take a bath in the Narmada near the village, when the mishap occurred, they said.

According to police, the incident came to light after their parents realised that the children, all aged between 9 and 16 years, had not returned home after over two hours. The family members rushed to the river and found the children missing.

Following this, a search was launched and bodies of the minors were recovered, police said. The children have been identified as Kajol Jigola (16) and her three sisters, Arti (14), Imisha (11) and Komal (9). Besides them, two cousin brothers Mayur (12) and Yaksh (11) also went missing.

Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations are on, police said.

Ahmed Patel, political secretary of Sonia Gandhi sent his condolence message to the family of the deceased.
