Muzaffarpur: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said that a signature campaign would soon begin in support for the demand of special status to the state.

Inaugurating a bridge on the Gandak river at Aathar village in Bochahan block of the district by Rural Engineering Organisation (REO) yesterday, Kumar said, "We have planned to obtain signatures of over one crore people for the demand."

"The list of signatures will be handed over to president Pratibha Patil and prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh for considering Bihar's demand," he said.

He enumerated the steps taken to improve the law and order situation in the state and appealed to the people not to be swayed over by utterances of his political opponents like RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his LJP counterpart Ram Vilas Paswan.
