With an eye to the assembly polls due later this year, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday pushed for more developmental work in the city, stressing that her government will work on all pending issues.
Speaking at a rally in Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, Dikshit promised to provide effective governance with more emphasis on development if her government retained power.
She also promised to address issues faced by women in the capital and enable them to reap benefits of government welfare schemes.
But as the chief minster reached the venue, she was shown black flags by a group of 10-15 people, who raised slogans against her, and also hurled abuses at Uttam Nagar legislator Mukesh Sharma.
Sharma termed the agitators "BJP activists". They were removed from the site by the police.
A group of people were also seen carrying a banner outside the venue which read: "Wadey nahi, vikas chahiye (Need progress, not promises)".
Addressing the rally, Dikshit said: "I'm happy the people of Delhi showed faith in our government. We have been delivering for the last 14 years. We have been on the path of development. But there is a Delhi which we call New Delhi and there is a Delhi which looks like a village. Our emphasis will be particularly on these areas in terms of roads, metro, travel, water, electricity and on other important amenities."
Dikshit said the construction process of a monorail project would start soon and a study would be carried out in the area.
She also promised to construct a 200-215 bed hospital in the constituency.
"There is a generation of people who do not know Delhi was without a metro and had eight hours of power curtailments daily. Water was not available round-the-clock. There were traffic issues as flyovers were few.
"But today, we have millions availing services of metro; five millions commute by hi-tech AC buses. Education has improved. The Delhi airport is now among the world's top five airports. Delhi has developed a lot on all fronts," she said.
Dikshit also promised to initiate a process of regularising unauthorised colonies and rehabilitation of resettlement colonies. "There will be no demolition of any unauthorised house or building in the city. Through proper process and courts, we will get these colonies authorised," she said.
On water crisis, she said: "Today, water is not reaching people the way it should. But we are finding a solution and the government promises to provide access to power meter and water in every home in a year or two."
She also announced construction of internal sewer lines in Uttam Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs.234 crore and said the government's assistance to various welfare schemes would be enhanced.
