Trying to get relief from severe pain because of various ailments, Pushpa Pandurang (38) started taking country-made liquor but it proved fatal for her as she breathed her last at Shardaben hospital in Bapunagar on Thursday. Pushpa is, so far, the only woman victim in the tragedy, which struck the city on Tuesday.

Pushpa didn't have money to treat her ailments so she started consuming cheap liquor a few months back. Her husband is a petty labourer and has to feed five family members. "I was not able to manage for her medical treatment and so she started consuming the cheap liquor sold near our house to get relief from pain," her husband Vasant told DNA.

According to her uncle Dutt Pandurang, Pushpa was suffering from various ailments such as migraine, stomachache among others and because of these ailments she became addicted to liquor.

"She had consumed the deadly liquor two days back and on Wednesday she started feeling drowsy and started to vomit. We took her to the hospital on Thursday morning but the doctors couldn't save her," Dutt said.

Pushpa has left behind two daughters and a son. The family had been searching for a groom for the eldest daughter.
