Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who worked with legendary actor Shammi Kapoor on the 1982-hit film Vidhaata, says the actor was a representative of the youth and was looking forward to his upcoming film Rockstar with his grandson Ranbir Kapoor.

"I was to release a documentary with him at my institute. But I did not expect that he will leave us like this. More than the industry's loss, this is my personal loss. I was very close to him," Ghai told reporters outside the actor's residence in Malabar Hill in south Mumbai.

Vidhaata was a 1982 Bollywood film directed by Subhash Ghai starring Sanjay Dutt, Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Amrish Puri, Madan Puri and Sarika. It was the highest grossing Bollywood movie in 1982.

"Even at the age of 79, he was a representative of youth. His spirit was so young and youthful. He was an inspiration to the youth," Ghai said.

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Rockstar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and American model Nargis Fakhri in the lead roles, releases on November 11, 2011.

"He even told me about shooting with his grandnephew Ranbir Kapoor for his upcoming film Rockstar. He had shot sometime back. He was very excited and was looking forward to the movie," Ghai said.

Shammi, had put up 'retired actor' status in his description on his twitter page.
