Shaktisinh Gohil attacks Narendra Modi, asks him not to worry about Congress

In a statement issued to the press, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Shaktisinh Gohil, strongly criticised Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for using a civic function to make political statements. Stating that the Gujarat CM has 'goons' for friends, Gohil alleged that the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa was also carried out by the CM's own man.

Lashing out at the CM's politically-charged speech at the inauguration of an overbridge in the city on Thursday, Gohil said that the function had been organised out of taxpayers' money, and should have been used for nothing but talk of the project itself.

'Considering that a state minister has been caught extorting money, the CM should feel ashamed. Instead, he makes even more noise than before', notes the press release.

Comparing the Kausarbi murder with Sita's abduction, Gohil said that whenever the dignity and rights of a woman have been compromised, it has shaken the very foundation of the government, and the same will happen now.

He added that in contrast to the BJP's accusations, the state's police force has not lost morale due to the arrests of some high-profile IPS officers. Instead, they feel confident that honesty and righteousness still stand a chance, says the note.

In a similar note issued by the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), its chief Siddharth Patel accused the state BJP of hypocrisy. He said that either Modi is himself involved in the unlawful activities going on in Gujarat, or is too inefficient to notice the goings-on in his own state.

Referring to the CM's statement that the Congress might field CBI men at the upcoming AMC elections, Patel said that Modi's remark is ridiculous and laughable. He added that Modi should stop worrying about the Congress now and fret instead about his own party, which seems to be emerging as 'criminal' as it is 'communal'.
