Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the top religious body of Sikhs, today expressed concern over the attack on Gurdwara in Malaysia and appealed to both the governments to take the issue seriously.

In a statement here today, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said the attack on Gurdwara in Malaysia has hurt the sentiments of Sikh community all over the world.

Expressing deep concern over the incident, he appealed to prime minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter with the authorities concerned to prevent such incidents in future.

Makkar also made a similar request to high commission of Malaysia at New Delhi. Recently some unidentified persons hurled stones at a Gurdwara in Malaysia damaging a front window of the building, adding to religious tensions over a series of attacks on churches in this Muslim-majority country.

The SGPC president also appealed to the prime minister to take up the matter with Australian Government regarding fire incident at an under-construction Gurdwara in south-east suburb of Melbourne.
