The thief was wanted by the cops since 2010 for serial theft of Verna cars and on Wednesday he was finally apprehended by Ahmedabad police.
The accused, Badal alias Prakash Yadav, was caught following a tip-off received by the patrolling team of Vastrapur police.
Jitu Yadav set up the police team at Sola Bridge in order to catch Badal and the action was completed when the robber was arrested as soon as he reached the venue in his Safari car. The case has been lodged at the Vastrapur police station.
Badal Yadav, 26, was wanted since 2010 after his accomplice Aavesh Movar was arrested by the police on 22 September, 2010. He was caught with six stolen cars. The Forensic Science Laboratory was requested to check the chassis numbers, which were confirmed to have been tampered with. In subsequent interrogations, he revealed the names of the group involved in the thefts. Around 36 cars have been stolen by the gang, 15 of which were Hyundai Vernas.
As reported by the police, Badal Yadav holds a degree in mechanical engineering. He stole cars which were manufactured before 2009, as he had knowledge about the engines. He was the mastermind and was helped by Ankit Yadav, Ashok Yadav, and Pratik Raj Jethva. Avesh's responsibility was selling the cars, after tampering with the chassis numbers. The thieves provided fake RC (certificate of registration) and RTO passing from Haryana.
Badal used to lead a luxurious life at Shukan-1, flat No. 301, Kudasan Road, Gandhinagar. After his arrest, 4 fake licenses and 4 fake pan cards were found in his car, along with a drilling machine and a screwdriver.
