Senior Indian Oil Corporation official abducted in Manipur

A divisional manager of oil major IOC was abducted by unidentified militants on the outskirts of the city, triggering an indefinite shutdown today by all petrol pumps in Manipur demanding his safe release.

Official sources said KI Singh, divisional manager of Indian Oil Corporation, was returning home from office on Friday evening when his car was intercepted by some men at Chingmeireng.

While his car was found abandoned about seven-eight km away from the spot soon afterwards, Singh remains untraced.

The sources said Singh's family has complained about an anonymous caller, who identified himself as a militant, demanding Rs1 crore as ransom from IOC for securing the official's release yesterday. The identity of the militant group was not revealed.

Petrol pumps in the state remained closed today causing great hardship to the public.

A petrol pump owners' association spokesperson said the strike will continue till the official is released.
