New Delhi: The income-tax (I-T) department has revealed that senior IAS officer Sukhdeo Singh had been instrumental in finalising mining contracts during Koda's tenure.

Singh was secretary in the department of mines when Koda was the minister of mines in the Jharkhand government (Feb 2005 to Sept 2006). When Koda toppled the BJP government and became CM, Singh became his principal secretary.

"All files in the CM's office were routed through Singh, who was his key adviser," said an I-T official. It has been learnt that Singh made crores of rupees during his stint under Koda and invested the money abroad.

The I-T department grilled the former CM for a second day on Wednesday. An I-T team handed over some documents to the ED,which is already grilling Koda associate Vikas Sinha. Now, the ED will confront Sinha with these. On Wednesday, Sinha told sleuths that he went to China, Germany and Tokyo to buy equipment for setting up companies here.

An ED team also went to Mumbai to collect evidence on firms floated by Koda associates Binod Sinha and Sanjay Choudhary.
