The temple town of Dakor in Kheda district was put on high alert after a letter threatening that the temple of Ranchhodrai would be blown up on August 15 was received by the temple trust.

The police did not take any chance to tighten the security in the temple and across the district, especially in view of the fact that this year’s the state-level Independence Day celebrations are scheduled to be held in Nadiad.

In the letter received by the temple management on Saturday, a person named Mohammad Abdul Pathan threatened to bomb the temple on August 15. He mentioned his address as ‘Station Road, Godhra’ and put Indian Mujahideen’s name as his organisation.  According to Jagdish Chandra Trivedi, manager of Dakor Temple Management Committee, clerk Rakesh informed him about the letter while sorting the daily posts.

In the evening, Trivedi informed the local police about the letter.  Soon, Dakor police beefed up security in the temple as well as in the town. But on Sunday morning, more police personnel were deployed in the temple and across the town.

To check devotees entering the temple, nine metal detectors _ four hand-held and five door-frame_ have been put in place.  Vehicles entering Dakor town are being checked.

Border Wing jawans have taken over the internal security of the temple. Dakor police have demanded more SRP jawans for the temple security. Officials from Special Operation Groups and Local Crime Branch have been pressed into service.

According to Manoj Shashidharan, chief of Anti Terrorist Squad, the threat         cannot be taken lightly. “We have increased the security of the temple as well as the town. Even if it is a hoax call, we cannot take any chances,” said Shahshidharan.

Kheda district superintendent of police, GL Singhal, said security had been increased to foil any attempt. “We have taken the threat seriously and taken all necessary steps to avoid any extreme situation,” said Singhal.

Dakor police inspector RD Patel said that a company of Border Wing, equipped with latest weapons, had been deployed at the temple in Dakor, which would be visited by hundreds of devotees as the religious month of ‘Shravan’  begins on Sunday. —With Agencies
