In its endeavour to choose next director of IIMA, four members of recently-formed search committee will convene for the first time
on Saturday.

Four members of the panel – Sanjay Lalbhai (CMD of Arvind group), Rama Bijapurkar (Indian management and research consultant), Mastek’s Ashank Desai and Hasit Joshipura of GSK Pharma are expected to visit IIMA campus to meet faculties to initiate the process. The panel is headed by AM Naik, CMD of Larsen & Toubro Limited and also newly-appointed chairman of board of governors at IIMA. However, his participation in the process isn’t confirmed yet.

As per information available via official emails to faculties of IIMA, members of the search panel have expressed interest in meeting the professors in a general meeting, and also in one-to-one interaction. Committee members are interested in interacting with senior faculty to shortlist probable candidates for the post of director, said sources.

“Two types of meetings are expected. While one will be a general meeting (with professors) where they might seek opinion about the new director, the other will see personal interaction of professors with the search panel to zero in on one contender for the post. Professor Samir Barua’s term as director ends in October,” said a senior faculty.

While most professors have agreed to the meetings, few of them have declined politely, said another faculty member. IIMA’s board of governors is set to meet in August to decide future plans about the selection process.
