The Supreme Court today directed the Allahabad high court to dispose of within four months a batch of writ petitions challenging the Constitutional validity of Mayawati government's decision to
construct memorials and statues of Dalit icons at a cost of Rs2600 crore.
A bench of Justices H S Bedi and A K Patnaik, however, permitted the state government to carry out certain minor maintenance work at the site where it had earlier stayed all construction activities.
