The first convocation of Shanti Business School (SBS), which was held at the SBS campus on Saturday, saw 77 students graduate as MBAs from the B-school. Dr Binod Agarwal, vice-chancellor of Himgiri Zee University, was chief guest for the ceremony.

Delivering the convocation address, Agarwal said that every student should value commitment, truthfulness and fearlessness.

He also pointed out that we are moving largely into ‘present oriented’, ‘highly verbal’ and ‘individualistic’ world. We have reached to a point of being self-centred, highly goal oriented and automatist human beings.

The other dignitaries to grace the occasion included Shri Ved Prakash Chiripal, chairperson of SBS; Jaiprakash Chiripal, director of Chiripal industries; Prof Vidyut Joshi, advisor (SBS); Prof Alan D’Souza, the founder Dean (SBS); Prof Kishore Barad, chairman of post-graduate programme; Jay Sanghani, head of Shanti Educational Initiatives, and Prof Bala Bhaskaran, executive director at SBS. Members of Chiripal family and parents of graduating students attended the event.

The convocation started in a festive mood with a Punjabi band after the first passing out batch achieved a 100% placement with the highest annual income of Rs7.50 lakh and the highest stipend of Rs55,000 during the six-month paid internship as part of the course.

“The school guided us with the present day expectations of the industry. My memorable experience was with TCS where I interned and Caterpillar Inc where I’m working presently. I owe the credit for being the only Indian to be selected at SAS Global Forum, 2012 in Orlando, Florida for writing a research paper on ‘Measuring consumer involvement profile: Testing CIP’ as a second order construct,” said 23-year-old Anurag Srivastava at the event.

Vikram Suklani, working with Epoch Research Institute as a SAS consultant for SAS BASE 9.2 and SAS Predicting modelling, gives his faculty the credit for guiding him into data mining and analytics, which has held him in good stead in the industry.

“The faculty was more than concerned for my future. They guided me throughout and helped me grow as an individual apart from a professional,” said Soumil Mehta, presently an entrepreneur with OPUS.
