Sanjiv Bhatt refutes Gordhan Zadaphia’s claims

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt wrote to the Nanavati-Mehta Commission refuting claims made by former minister for state for home, Gordhan Zadaphia also attaching copies of the official fax messages that were sent from Bhatt's office to MoS and other government departments during on February 27 and 28, 2002.

In his letter, Bhatt mentions that both Narendra Modi and the MoS  (Home) Zadaphia were kept contemporaneously informed about the decision of bringing bodies of the victims to Ahmedabad and the likely repercussions of the administrative decision. He also states that information about the on-going violence at Gulbarg society and other places were also sent.

During his tenure as the deputy commissioner in the State Intelligence Bureau, Bhatt had obtained relevant call records for Godhra as well as Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, a copy of which has been submitted to the SIT headed by RK Raghavan. 

Supporting IPS officer Rahul Sharma's evidence of the call records, Bhatt's letter also states: "I have also had the occasion to study, analyse and compare the call records procured by the State Intelligence Bureau with the call records collected by Sharma and both these records are exactly similar." Bhatt has submitted copies of a fax messages sent to PS to CM and PS to MoS (Home) informing about the mob gathered outside Ahesan Jafri's house. The fax message says that 'former MP Jafri and his family members residing at Gulbarg society have been surrounded and are being attacked by a Hindu mob’. It also said 'the lives of Jafri and other family members are in imminent danger and so the commissioner of police is requested take immediate effective action'.
