Sand has been his preferred medium in the past to give shape to his ideas and now celebrated artist Sudarsan Pattnaik will prove his mettle once again, this time in Japan by creating a snow sculpture on the ill-effects of climate change.
Pattnaik will compete will artists from 15 countries like the US, Malaysia, Russia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand at the 39th International Snow Sculpture contest in Sopporo in Japan from February 5.
Representing India at the prestigious contest, Pattnaik will create a sculpture on climate change that will show how people suffer from the menace.
"We will show that how the people are suffering from climate change as well as the earth through this sculpture," he said in Delhi.
Pattnaik, who had already participated in the contest in 2002 and 2007, will create the sculpture at a height of 3 meters.
He said it will take four days to complete this sculpture with the help of two of his students Jitendra Kishore Jagadev and Bulu Mohanty.
A renowned sand artist, Pattnaik has represented India in 47 international sand sculpture championship and festivals around the world and won many prizes including World championship title at Berlin.
He also runs a sand art institute in Golden beach of Puri, Odisha.
