Samajwadi Party supporters shoot into the air

Police said some people created a ruckus in the rural area of Nawabganj Sudurpur and continued firing in the air for about an hour.

In violence related to the recent assembly polls, a number of people, said to be supporters of Samajwadi Party MLA Syed Jamaluddin Siddiqui allegedly fired in the air to terrorise Congress supporters here.

Police said some people created a ruckus in the rural area of Nawabganj Sudurpur and continued firing in the air for about an hour.

No one has been injured in the incident, police said adding that additional police force was rushed to the area and four people from both sides have been taken into custody.

Those who indulged in firing are said to be SP supporters in a village which has a sizeable number of people who support Congress, according to local residents.

Meanwhile, Siddiqui rushed to the area and asked his supporters not to indulge in such incidents and told them to maintain order.
