Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid today found nothing in wrong in the CPI-M's proposed march to the Kerala High Court protesting the six-months sentence awarded to a party leader in a contempt of court so long as it did not break laws or lead to violence.

A march was not something which "we can oppose as long as there is no breaking of laws or violence", he said even as his party Chief Minister Ommen Chandy held a different view saying such protest would weaken the democratic system.

Khurshid, however, said local authorities, state government and high court need to take a view on this.

CPI-M has announced the march for November 15 protesting the sentencing of its leader M V Jayarajan recently by the court for his derogatory comments against two judges for the court verdict on banning roadside meeting.

"There is a clear distinction between disagreeing with the court's decision and indulging in disrespect to the court... As far as there is no disrespect to the court, a person in a democracy has a right to protest or complain," he said.

Khurshid, however, added, "I think when we are dealing with matters of court, we have to be extremely careful and we should not overstep the line. One must respect the court."

Earlier, Chandy at a meet-the-press here asked the CPI-M to reconsider its decision to take out the march on November 15, saying these type of agitations would create serious implications and weaken the democratic system.

"Those who are afraid of judiciary are those who have committed some wrong doing...I do not think CPI-M is such a party," Chandy said.
