It appears that Union law minister Salman Khurshid can’t get his lines right when he is in campaign mode. First, he went a bit too far with his promise that there could be 8-9% reservation for minorities carved out of the 27% OBC quota, and got censured by the Election EC. Now he spoke of Congress president Sonia Gandhi getting emotional on seeing the pictures of the politically sensitive Batla House encounter, and had to eat his words as contradictions came thick and fast.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh strongly rebutted Khurshid’s contention that Sonia had shed tears, and added, “This is his version of the incident.” The party too quickly disapproved of Khurshid’s version, but did not censure him.Asenior party leader said, “Why will madam cry?”
Digvijay says the Batla House encounter needs to be probed but home minister P Chidambaram has been firm in rejecting any re-look at this incident. “There is nothing more to add on this issue, all that needs to be said has been spoken,” said Renuka Chaudhary.
