Sabeer Bhatia's Nano City Gujarat is one of the four companies that is developing a city at Dholera in Gujarat. But unlike the others, Bhatia's company has decided to develop the city without the need of Kalpasar.

Apart from Sabeer Bhatia's company, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) and Universal Success Enterprise Limited (USEL) are also developing the city at Dholera.

A few months back, an official of HCC had claimed that without Kalpasar, the city in Dholera cannot be developed as there is no other source of drinking water there. But Bhatia's company thinks otherwise.
"We don't require fresh or drinking water from Kalpasar. We are going ahead without need for Kalpasar water," said an official of Nano City Gujarat.

The company had signed an MoU for the project with the state government in 2009. On Thursday, Sabeer Bhatia and his team met Gujarat chief Narendra Modi. Talking about the plan, an official said, "It takes time to plan a city. Once the draft is ready, the development does not take much time," he claimed.

The proposed Nano City by Bhatia in the special investment region (SIR) at Dholera is coming up with an investment of Rs30,000 crore. The co-founder of Hotmail.com, Sabeer Bhatia has conceived the project, to be developed in Dholera SIR under the brand name of Nano City Gujarat.

"We are going to develop a new city, a bigger version of a township, which will have every desired facility. We have already identified the location in Dholera and soon we will announce the plan," he said.

The city will be developed 80 km away from Ahmedabad. It will also have an airport in days to come. "It will take about 15 years to build the city spread over 4,000 acres. Water bodies will also be developed there. Of the total land, 30% will be open area for greenery and another 30% will be reserved for commercial complexes. Rest of the area will have residential buildings of various categories such as 1BHK flats and big bungalows," said the official.

Nano City Gujarat had also tied up with a Pittsburgh-based university to set up an educational institute with a campus. The company also has plans to use solar energy in the city. "We want to develop the city in such a way that it would focus on solar or renewable energy to meet the power requirements. This will not only save cost but will also keep the city green and clean," said the official.
