With the Centre transferring some of its key powers relating to MCD to the Delhi government, the ruling BJP in the civic body today said it will approach the prime minister over the "politically motivated" decision.
"This is a politically motivated decision. With Congress in power both in Delhi and the Centre, it may lead to problems for us," Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya told PTI.
"Though main powers like dissolution and delimitation have not been given, what has been done will give a handle to Delhi government to unnecessary pressurise us," he said.
Mayor Kanwar Sain said after this decision, "MLAs may try to interfere in corporators' work, delaying work in important projects."
"We will approach the prime minister and seek his intervention in the issue," Arya said.
