SPS Rathore's counsel wife Abha, who is pleading for him in Ruchika molestation case, today tried to portray him as the victim of a conspiracy that had been hatched to defame him.

During the daily hearing before justice Jitendra Chauhan of Punjab and Haryana high court, Abha today maintained that the whole case smacked of conspiracy right from the start.

She even raised questions on the preparation of the complaint which was submitted by the complainant in the shape of a memorandum on the incident.

Abha said that as a part of the well-executed conspiracy the complaint was not first submitted to the state DGP or the chief secretary but was handed over to the then home secretary JK Duggal, who she has claimed had enmity with Rathore.

She also said that Duggal had not ordered the registration of an FIR.

She further said that rivals of Rathore, who was Haryana police IGP in 1990 and head of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association, had taken over of the tennis association's office in Panchkula.

"If it was only a case of molestation, why was the office taken over," she questioned.

She insisted the registration of a case against Rathore at that stage would have brought out the truth and he would have come out clean, as coach and another witness Paltu could have been examined, which she has claimed were never examined.

Abha had on May 26 filed a revision petition in the high court on Rathore's behalf for suspension of sentence and grant of bail to Rathore, a day after the session's court here awarded him 18-month jail term for molesting budding tennis player Ruchika Girhotra.

68-year-old Rathore has been lodged in the high security
Burail jail since May 25.

Ruchika Girhotra had committed suicide three years after being molested by Rathore on August 12, 1990.
