Amid allegations that CBI had not probed the role of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in Ruchika's suicide in 1993, a senior officer who went into the molestation case then said today the investigation had been "sincere and unbiased".

"As far as I remember, the case has been probed sincerely with no bias and entire evidence available on records have been examined by a top criminal lawyer of the country," IGP (HQ), Bihar Rajesh Ranjan, who was then DIG CBI said when asked for his comments on the allegations levelled by Ruchika's family.

Ranjan said the case was probed "sincerely, without any bias and chargesheet submitted after thorough vetting of records" and after the examination of evidence, it was once again "legally vetted thoroughly" before submitting the final chargesheet in the molestation case.

Rubbishing the charge of the Girhotra family that appeared in a section of the press here today that Ranjan had refused to record the statement of Ruchika's brother, Ashu, despite the latter's assertion that his sister committed suicide after the family was harassed at the behest of Rathore, who was an IGP in Haryana, he said "it is absolutely wrong".

"In fact none from the family turned up before us and we went to their place on our own for recording statement and investigation," Ranjan said.

The IG (Headquarters) said it would be inappropriate for him to comment more on the matter as CBI should be approached for the details as the entire records related to the case are with the agency.

"It is very difficult to recall the whole matter after almost 16 years," he added.
