Rs4 lakh sanctioned for free medicines in Srinagar hospitals

Jammu and Kashmir minister for rural development Ali Mohammad Sagar today released Rs 4 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDP) for providing free medicine to patients admitted in three government hospitals.

Sagar, who visited the hospitals yesterday, announced the grant of Rs 4 lakh for providing the free medicines to indoor patients at Jawaharlal Lal Nehru Hospital (JLNM) at Rainawari, Gousia Hospital and Maharaj Gunj Hospital, an official spokesman said.

He said the minister took this step to ensure that the patients admitted in these institutions do not face any difficulty during restrictions imposed in the Valley.

Out of the sanctioned amount, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to JLNM hospital and Rs one lakh each to Gousia and Maharaj Gunj Hospitals, he said.

Sagar directed the Health Service Authorities to ensure that free medicines be provided to every patient admitted in these hospitals for which funds have already been released.

He also directed for monitoring the drug supply so that the patients are benefited at the earliest.

During the visit, Sagar visited wards of these hospitals and inquired from patients about the facilities provided to them.

He also inspected the stores at these hospitals and checked the stock position and was informed that adequate stocks are available.

Regarding the complaint of non-functioning of USG machine at Gousia Hospital, Sagar was assured by the Director of Health Services that a new machine costing Rs 10.50 lakhs would be acquired for the hospital within a month.

Hospitals in Srinagar have been facing shortage of medicines in view of the ongoing unrest in the valley, which has left 104 persons dead and hundreds of others injured.

The state government has already sanctioned Rs 51 lakh for providing medicines to patients in hospitals.
