Claiming that Rs 2,300 crore meant for drought relief remained unutilised in Uttar Pradesh and has now been returned following the end of the financial year, Congress today lashed out at the state government for its "insensitivity" and "miscalculation".
"Either it is miscalculation on the part of the officials who sent an exorbitant amount for drought relief or it is the insensitivity and utter callousness of the departments which had to distribute it among the drought victims and for both it is the government which is responsible," Congress spokesman Dwijendra Tripathi said here.
Referring to demands of special packages by the Mayawati government, Tripathi alleged that non utilisation of funds has
proved that it is not people's welfare that the government is
worried about but fulfilling personal ulterior motives of the
chief minister and close officials.
