Two arrested for Delhi community hall fire, compensation announced

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday announced a compensation of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in last night's east Delhi fire and ordered a probe into the incident which left 14 people dead and 40 others injured.

After visiting the injured at the GTB hospital, Dikshit said government would give Rs50,000 to each of the seriously injured while those sustaining minor injuries will get Rs10,000 out of which Rs5,000 will be given immediately.

The Chief Minister said Divisional Commissioner Vijay Dev has been asked to probe the incident and file a report to the government at the earliest.

Fourteen people were killed and over 40 others injured last night when a major broke out at a community hall in Nand Nagri area where a congregation of eunuchs was taking place.

Officials said Rs5,000 would be given to all those sustaining any sort of injuries while remaining amount would be paid after due verification.

Describing the incident as "very tragic", Dikshit said Sharma has been instructed to look into all aspects of the incident.

Health Minister AK Walia and senior officials of Delhi Government accompanied Dikshit to the hospital.

Dikshit visited all the 33 patients undergoing treatment at various wards of the hospital and instructed the authorities to provide them all possible treatment free of cost. Some of the injured have been taken to other hospitals.

The Chief Minister said Dev has been told to examine all aspects of the fire incident and file a detailed report.
