Rajkot got its share of chief minister Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana pie on Monday in the form of development package worth Rs1,100 crore. At the conclusion of his day-long fast as part of ‘Sadbhavana Mission’, the CM announced the riverfront project for Rajkot, besides 21 other new development projects for the city.

Rounding up the day’s programme, the CM recalled that dairy industry was once an economic mainstay of the Saurashtra region, but it took a nosedive around 2001. The government is now keen to revive this industry by providing incentives to cattle owners.

He said that that the Saurashtra-Kutch region has also seen an exponential growth in tourism in recent times. Besides, Gujarat has increased production of raw cotton from 23 lakh to 1.23 crore bales. The next phase of development is slated to be along the coastal region.

About 14,000 people voluntarily joined his fast on Monday. It was part of 33 fasts being undertaken by him at districts and municipal corporation areas.

On the other hand, Congress MP from Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency Kunvarji Bavalia observed Satkarm fast. Talking about the fast, Bavalia said, “Our fast was not a five-star event. There was no facility except drinking water for the participants. Around 15,000 people joined us from the rural and urban areas. All of them had spent their own money and fuel to reach here.”
