The education sector attracted large number of investors as MoUs worth a whopping Rs10,000 crores were signed on the first day of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011.
Different parties in various educational arenas inked no less than 93 MoUs - which added up to investment to the tune of Rs9900.71 crores in Gujarat.
MoUs were signed in three major areas - higher, technical and secondary education. Thirty-seven MoUs were signed in higher education segment drawing a total investment of Rs4756.50 crores.
The technical education area witnessed a total investment of Rs3196.21crores with 33 MoUs being signed whereas 23 MoUs were signed in secondary educational segment, drawing a total investment of Rs1948 crores.
Prominent educational bodies as well as corporates evinced interest in setting up educational institutions in the state. Reliance Foundation will invest Rs128 crores for setting up an engineering college under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in Jamnagar.
Amruta Vishwa Vidyalaya will set up an educational institute for Rs250 crores. Charutar Vidya Mandal of Vallabh Vidyanagar will invest Rs500 crores for installing a technical and research complex.
Apart from them, Global Educational Trust is coming up with a Global Discovery school for Rs500 crores.
Interesting and innovative MoUs also made their way at the summit. A project by 'Zee Learn' will be taken up to improve the educational scenario in 25 primary schools, run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
International Innovation and Research Foundation too signed a MoU to establish 'Innovation University'. Team Lease India Pvt Ltd evinced interest for setting up a 'Skill University' in Gujarat.
