Two students of RC Technical Institute hostel in Chankyapuri were hospitalised after they were beaten up by a gang of rowdies, which included a few residents of the same hostel, on Wednesday night. A victim has alleged that a few thugs whose entry had been prohibited in the hostel by the rector and a few hostel residents too were behind the attack.

Sola police said that while Rahul Prajapati, Chirag Daraji and a few other students of the institute's hostel were dining at an eatery near Cinemax, a gang comprising 24 men came on bikes and attacked them with stumps and wooden clubs.

"The assailants asked the boys if they were from the said hostel. When the students said yes, they asked them who complained to the rector against them and started beating them up," police added. The incident took place at around 8 pm on Wednesday.

While others managed to run away, Prajapati, 16, and Darji, 16, - both students of mechanical engineering and computer engineering, respectively, at RC Technical Institute, were caught by the gang. The duo was severely beaten up by the gang. They received severe head and foot injuries in the assault and were later rushed to Sola civil hospital. While Prajapati was discharged from the hospital on Thursday morning, Darji is still undergoing treatment.

Prajapati, who hails from Aatrsumba village in Kapadwanj taluka of Kheda district has named Munno Rabari, Raju Rabari, Kunal Patel and Jaydev Patel as accused in his complaint. Of them, Kunal and one Ronak, who was also in the gang, live in the same hostel, while Jaydev is a former resident of it. Raju and others are Ronak's friends.

The complaint further states that Munno, Raju and Jaydev used to come to see Ronak and used to stay in the hostel illegally. They also used to harass other students and asked them to join their gang.

However, some students complained against the accused to the rector, who in turn, prohibited their entry in the hostel premises. To take revenge, the gang attacked them, Prajapati said.
Sola police have registered a case of assaulting and started further investigation in the matter.
