Claiming that huge quantities of essential commodities were being smuggled to Nepal from Bihar in connivance with officials posted at the borders, RJD chief Lalu Prasad today said the party would launch a 'Border March' against it.

"Bihar has a big consumer market where a huge quantity of essential commodities are stocked. These are being clandestinely smuggled to Nepal using the long porous borders every day in connivance with officials, including SSB personnel, local police stations, collectors, customs sleuths and others deployed on the checkpost," he told a press conference.

"We will launch a Border March to arrest illicit trade and smuggling of commodities, including rice, pulses, vanaspati, salt and sugar," he said.

Prasad said he would write to Union home minister P Chidambaram seeking his immediate intervention in the matter.

The state government was responsible for not preventing the smuggling, he said adding ''We have also been informed that the commodities being smuggled to Nepal are again being sent back with much higher price tags.''

RJD would launch a country-wide agitation against the escalating prices of essential commodities, he added.
