Religious leaders visit mural at Kankaria

When the sandstone mural was inaugurated at Kankaria lake during the carnival in December 2011, the civic body had plans to put the entire history of the city on the wall. Now, to include interesting facts about cultural and religious history of the city, the civic body on Sunday morning invited representatives of various religions to comment on the depictions on the wall. About 30-40 saints from different religions visited the mural and gave their feedback.

The mural currently measuring around 3,150 sq feet depicts the history of Ahmedabad. "We want the mural to be perfect and want to know how to improve on it. Saints are the best people who can tell more about the religious history of the city and how various communities became a part of it," said mayor Asit Vora. Once completed, the mural will measure 6,000 feet in length and will be world's largest mural. The construction of the entire mural will cost around Rs90 lakh.

The visitors were given an audio presentation and a tour of the mural by designer Prakash Vani who also explained the different phases of the city depicted in the mural. Swami Shivramdas of Saryudas mandir of Prem Darwaja talked about how some of the aspects should also be incorporated in the mural. "The mural should say something about Manek Chowk." Head priest Swami Muktananda of Gita Mandir said the designer has incorporated everything in the mural.
