Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani Saturday demanded "immediate and unconditional" release of persons from Jammu and Kashmir who have served life terms after being convicted by various courts on terrorism charges.

"We demand their immediate and unconditional release," Geelani told reporters at his residence where he continues to be under arrest for past several months.

He referred to the case of Ashiq Hussain Faktoo and two others who were acquitted by a TADA court in 2001 but later convicted by the Supreme Court.

"The government even rejected the recommendation of its own review board which had recommended their release based on their good conduct," Geelani said.

Faktoo was arrested in 1993 on terrorism charges, and last year the review board had recommended his release.
