Release all political prisoners: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has demanded release of all political prisoners in Jammu and Kashmir and political leaders to be allowed to travel abroad.

The Mirwaiz, appreciating that the South Asian region was expanding and becoming a major role player in all international market, said the spin offs from this should also accrue to the people Kashmir.

The Hurriyat Conference chief, who was addressing members of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) on the sidelines of the UN general assembly session, asked these countries to use their good relationship with India to impress upon New Delhi to release all political prisoners.

During his stay in New York, Umar Farooq met a number of leaders from the Muslim world, including Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

"While we are not opposed to India's unprecedented growth but we also want India to allow the Kashmir to grow and prosper as well," Farooq said.
