Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today said strong efforts are needed to reduce the gap between the rich and poor.

"All the 7 billion people of the world are the same, they born and die in the same way; they have the same mental and physical ability. Then why there is a huge gap between rich and poor? It is our utmost moral responsibility to reduce this gap," Dalai Lama said at the inaugural ceremony of Tog Len, a charitable trust, at Sarah near here.

He also stressed on uplift of children living in slums by providing them education and other learning opportunities.

Praising the work by Tibetan monk Tog Len, the Dalai Lama said, "It is very nice to see that a Tibetan Monk (a refugee) of Dharamsala have taken the work to uplift the Indian slum children."

Tong-Len is involved in helping displaced communities in North India through various education and health-based projects.
