‘Red light’ on their car was a beacon for all illegal activities

They were held for posing as officials of an NGO in Maninagar and for driving in a red beacon car. But apparently their crime wasn't as innocuous as thought earlier.

They were held for posing as officials of an NGO in Maninagar and for driving in a red beacon car. But apparently their crime wasn't as innocuous as thought earlier.

For police investigations have found that RB Ojha and Shiva alias Sanjiv Patel, who were arrested near Rambaugh in Maninagar had allegedly captured an old-age home for illegal activities. They were also allegedly involved in the sale of fake I-cards and smart cards of major organisations.

Before his arrest, Ojha had claimed to be the president of an NGO.

Dineshsinh Chauhan, Maninagar police inspector had first intercepted the read-beacon car the duo were travelling in. At that time Ojha showed his NGO I-card and also produced a letter from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) that permitted him to install the red-beacon on his car. PI Chauhan seized the permission letter and inquired with the RTO about the permission. RTO officials denied having given any such permission letter.

Following this, police arrested Ojha and Patel.

On Saturday, police found out about the other illegal activities the duo was allegedly involved in. According to police, Ojha and Patel have captured an abandoned old age home in Barejadi, near Aslali. They have allegedly started using the old age home as a farm house and a venue for booze parties as well.

Aslali police visited the place in Barejadi, where locals told them about the suspicious activities going on there since long. Police also raided the old age home, but didn't find anything suspicious.
Apart from converting the old age home into a party place, the duo was also allegedly involved in a state-wide racket involving forged I-cards. According to police, the duo are involved in sale of I-cards and smart cards bearing names of major organizations, NGOs, press clubs and other government and constitutional bodies.

When stopped at the signal on Friday, Ojha flashed an I-card of All Indian Human Rights Grievances.
Police raided the office of their NGO at Rambaug and seized 100

such cards, bearing names like 'Government of India' and 'Press Club'. These smart I -cards were sold at Rs2,000 to Rs8,000.
