The re-survey of Bru refugee population, lodged at the six relief camps in Tripura by Mizoram Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF) might take another week for completion, MBDPF general secretary A. Sawibung said today.

The process of re-enumeration of the population, scheduled to be completed on Saturday last, could not be completed on time as many people were still left out in the head count, Sawibung told PTI over phone.

The earlier population survey began on June 15 and completed on July 28, following instructions from the Mizoram home department identifying more than 27,000 refugees but the MBDPF found that faulty as many people were not included in the lists.

The resurvey, which began on August two by the forum after it took up the matter with the state governments, was initially scheduled to be completed in six days.

The head count was seen as a prelude to the repatriation of the refugees as the Union home minister P Chidambaram, during his visit to Aizawl on May 25 urged the Bru leaders to ensure that all of them return to Mizoram by October end.
