The suspicion of links of Babbar Khalsa and the Lashkar-e-Taiba to the RDX-laden car recovered in Ambala last week strengthened on Wednesday with the police discovering that the vehicle was stolen from Ludhiana in Punjab, though it bore a Haryana registration number.

Police investigation found the car bearing chassis number (67*600142CUZP39582*) and engine number (279001153804AR3) was stolen from Ludhiana about a fortnight ago and was taken to Jammu thereafter. The RDX was stuffed in the car in Jammu for transportation to Delhi, the police said.

The Punjab police, after gathering intelligence from other states, feel that Babbar Khalsa International’s modules in Pakistan have been under pressure to deliver in India. BKI chief Wadhawa Singh has been among half a dozen other Punjab militants hiding in Pakistan for more than 15 years. Wadhawa has been trying to cultivate modules in Punjab to give a new lease of life to his militant organisation, the police report says.

The police have intensified vigil on the BKI links in Punjab. It is believed that the BKI might have been under pressure from the ISI revive its activities or play an active role in supporting Lashkar’s designs in India.

Whether it was the BKI which could have used the explosive in Delhi or it was meant exclusively for LeT has been a matter of speculation for the police.
