Ramadoss demands CBI probe into double murder

PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today demanded a CBI probe into the recent double murder at Paiyanur near here, where an elderly couple were shot dead, alleging that there were a "lot of mysteries" in the case.

Speaking to reporters here, Ramadoss, an ally of principal opposition AIADMK,said the investigation was a "big challenge" for CB-CID, the agency probing the incidents relating to the killing of former ship captain Elangovan and his wife Ramani.

"Media reports claim there could have been political reasons behind the murder. Will the CB-CID reveal the truth if some persons from the ruling DMK are involved. (Therefore) the case should be handed over to CBI," he said, referring to the case in which the alleged assailant died while in police custody.

Alleging that individuals were holding huge tracts of land in the state, he demanded that a regulatory authority be first formed and laws enacted later.

On the 'tamperability' of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Ramadoss said the PMK would send a full technical team soon to Delhi prove its claims before the Election Commission.

The EC had extended full cooperation on this issue, he said. The party had earlier submitted a memorandum with the EC over its claims that EVMs were not tamper-proof in the wake of its poor show in the May 13 Lok Sabha elections, where it lost all seven seats it contested.
