Rajasthan cops tried to earn promotion for Sohrabuddin killing

A team of Rajasthan police, which had accompanied the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) while it executed Sohrabuddin in a fake encounter, had tried to earn a promotion for killing the gangster.

This was revealed from a letter that was attached to the charge sheet in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case filed by the CBI. Dinesh MN, then superintendent of police, Udaipur, Abdul Rehman, police inspector and police sub-inspectors Shyamsinh Charan and Himanshusinh Rajawat were part of the team that executed Sohrabuddin.

They are at present lodged in the Sabarmati jail. After killing Sohrabuddin, Dinesh MN had written the letter to his seniors recommending the promotion of Rehman, Charan and Rajawat as a special case.  Dinesh MN had recommended the promotion on the basis of their good work and bravery in killing a dreaded gangster.

Dinesh MN in the letter also said that Sohrabuddin as an operative of Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba and was working for them.

Dinesh wrote in the letter that, Rehman, Charan and Rajawat had fired at Sohrabuddin to save the life of other members of the team without a thought for their own. The letter said such an act was remarkable in the history of Rajasthan police.

The IPS officer also attached sheets narrating details of the encounter and the career record of the three cops.
