Congress MLA L Rajagopal, who had gone on a fast in protest against creation of a separate Telangana, today said the Centre was not to be blamed for the controversy, as Telugu Desam and Praja Rajyam parties had reversed their stand on the issue.
"We really cannot blame the Centre. Now there is a reversal of stand by various political parties like Praja Rajyam and Telugu Desam. So we need to re-look the whole process and try to arrive at a consensus," Rajagopal said.
Stating that he was "never anti-Telangana" but was "only for a united Andhra Pradesh," the Congress MLA said, earlier there was broad consensus among political parties on creation of Telangana, and hence the Centre had given consent to separate statehood.
However, the reversal of stand by parties had resulted in lack of consensus and (the situation) now calls for all political parties to now sit together to work out a solution for "peace and harmony in Telugu land and (among) Telugu people".
On home minister Chidambaram's statement on the situation in Andhra Pradesh having "altered," Rajagopal told television channels that the minister was very clear that it was not a question of putting the Telangana issue on the back burner, but reversal of stand by various political parties.
"So, unless there is discussion, we cannot find a solution," the MLA said.
"Since the state's population is Telugu-speaking, there is a common thread and we can come together. We will try to erase the scars and heal the wounds. This can be done at the state level by leaders of all parties," he added.
