With the low pressure area lying over Comorin in Kanyakumari moving towards the Arabian sea, rainfall over Tamil Nadu would decrease in the next two days, the weather office said here today.

After a brief respite, several parts of the state were lashed by heavy rains in the last two days under the influence of the low pressure area in the Indian Ocean (in Comorin area).

However, met sources today said the trough was now lying over East Arabian sea off Kerala-Karnataka-Goa coast and due to this rainfall would decrease in Tamil Nadu.

"Yesterday there was widespread rain in Tamil Nadu but over the next 48 hours (starting 8.30 am today), there will be scattered rainfall in the state and Puducherry," they said.

Chennai would mostly remain cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

During the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am, Devala in Nilgiris district received 10 cms of rainfall, while Mudugalur in Ramanthapuram district recorded 9 cms, met officials added.
