Heavy rains and windy conditions today led to disruption of operations at the IGI airport here for about 30 minutes, delaying the movement of some flights while at least two were diverted.

Congestion in air traffic prevailed due to heavy rains and strong winds this evening delaying several flights.

"A number of flights were delayed while some had to be diverted to other airports," airport sources said.

Delhi generally witnesses heavy air traffic during the evening hours between 5 pm to 10 pm, as most of the domestic flights take-off and arrive here during this period.

The IGI airport witnessed dense cloud over the runway in the evening and IGI Met Department had issued warning about heavy rains.

Torrential rains reduced the visibility to around 1,500 metres at the airport, an airport weather official said.
