Ahmedabad: Even as Ahmedabad's wait for rain continued amid predictions of "one or two spells of rain or thundershowers," some areas in Saurashtra witnessed fresh showers on Thursday. Meanwhile, the depression formed in the Arabian Sea reached within 50 km of Dwarka, albeit with the possibility of moving away from the India coast as it intensified.

The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rain in Saurashtra, Kutch and Diu within the next 36 hours. Ahmedabad, though, will have to wait a little longer, with predictions of only one or two spells of rain.

Squally weather is likely to prevail along the Gujarat coast on account of the vigorous monsoon conditions. North-westerly winds at 35 to 45 km/hr are to be expected, with temporary speeds of up to 55 km/hr being a possibility, the meteorology department in Gujarat predicted. The seas will be rough and fishermen have been warned against venturing out to sea in the 24 hours from Thursday afternoon.

The meteorology department, however, said that a low pressure area over Saurashtra and Kutch has moved eastwards, emerging as the depression located 50 km from Dwarka and 300 km southeast of Karachi. The system is likely to intensify further and move northeast, away from the Indian coast.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur at isolated places in Gujarat, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
