Kokrajhar: Train services were disrupted in Assam's Kokrajhar district today as irate passengers and locals squatted on the railway tracks at Fakiragram station after a local woman was allegedly molested by security personnel in a compartment of Brahmaputra Mail, police said.

A local woman travelling in the train was allegedly molested inside a compartment of the train, on its way from New Delhi to Guwahati by some travelling CRPF personnel, the sources said.

When the train reached Fakiragram station of the district bordering West Bengal at 8.30am, an angry mob of nearly 500 people stopped the train and squatted on the tracks protesting against the incident and demanding immediate arrest of the security personnel.

Police have detained the security personnel suspected to be involved in the incident, they said.

Several long-distance and goods trains have been controlled at different stations and places in Lower Assam.

Senior police, civil and railway officials have rushed to the spot and are negotiating with the protesters to ensure normal movement of trains.
