Rahul Gandhi today met senior Delhi Congress leaders including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, DPCC president JP Agarwal, and MPs, MLAs and councillors, infusing enthusiasm among the party workers ahead of the municipal polls early next year.

The Congress General Secretary visited Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office here and spent around 45 minutes during which chaos prevailed as members jostled to speak to him.

All the Block Congress presidents, District Committee presidents as well as DPCC office bearers were present at the gathering.

"Rahul Gandhi wanted to visit DPCC office, so he came today. Since he was coming here so I called our MPs, MLAs, councillors, district and block presidents," JP Agarwal, DPCC President, said adding that Gandhi's visit has enthused the party workers to a great extent.

"The visit has enthused all party workers. It will inspire us in working hard for the upcoming municipal polls," he said. Municipal polls are slated to be held in April next year.

As Gandhi was interacting with partymen, chaos prevailed for a while, when some of the Congress workers tried to gift shawl to Gandhi at the same time.

Agarwal, however, played down incident. "In their eagerness to present gift to Rahul Gandhi, some of the workers gathered around him as a result there was some chaotic situation," he said.

Refuting speculation on rift in the party on the issue of trifurctaion of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the DPCC said there is no difference between the government and the party on the matter.

"There are no differences between the government and the party. Show me a house where there is no difference of opinion among the family members, so is the case here. There is no rift between the government and the party," Agarwal said.

Five MPs from Delhi were present. Chandni Chowk MP Kapil Sibal and East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit were not present due to prior engagements.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Health and Family Welfare Minister Kiran Walia and Union Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath were among those present at the DPCC office.
