Ragging: Law student in Tamil Nadu beaten up with iron rods

A first-year student of the government Law college here has alleged that he was beaten up with iron rods and hockey sticks by some seniors while being ragged.

According to the complaint by Naveen Kumar, eight second and third-year students, waylaid him last night near the college on the city outskirts and beat him up, police said.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the eight under the section of 147 (unlawful assembly), 294 B (beating with weapons) and 324 (using abusing language) and also under Tamil Nadu Prevention of Ragging Act.

To prevent any untoward incident, adequate number of police have been deployed near the college, they said.
