The seven workers, who got exposed to radiation while at work in SFTD (spent fuel transfer duct) on May 30, 2011, are now very much a part of the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS). They have been taken back into the job and work as casual labourers in different departments of the power station.

However, the workers allege that they haven't been paid any compensation in the incident as yet.

The seven employees were not allowed to work for a few weeks by the Kakrapar officials, after it was learnt that they had been exposed to radiation. They were told to take rest or do some simple work if desperately in need of the job.  After a series of protests and allegations from both the sides, workers were offered casual jobs.

"Initially, we were offered jobs such as that of a gardener and security guard. Our job profiles keep changing and so do our departments. I am concerned with this," said Dinesh Chaudhry, 28, resident of Bedkuvadur village in Vyara.

Meanwhile, the company has not given any compensation to the workers as officials believe that none of the seven workers suffered any health problem due to the incident.

"There is no question of paying any compensation as these employees were never, in the first place, fired from their jobs. They have been constantly a part of KAPS and it was they who parted ways with the company. It is good that they are back to work. It will benefit both of us," a top official said, requesting anonymity.

Sources say that the entire issue was raised deliberately by a fraction to gain political mileage in the region and pressurise company officials.  However, the idea didn't work and the seven workers agreed to rejoin the organisation unconditionally.
