It’s time once again for the nine nights of sleeplessness — no, not for the revellers alone, but also for the poor worried guardians, who do not mind spending money to keep a tab on their wards’ waywardness.

However, to help these anxious parents crack their wards’ secret rendezvous, city’s detective agencies are also wide awake and are moving in mufti this Navratri — albeit, for a sizeable sum!

According to many security (read detective) agencies in the city, queries from parents for bookings and rates have already began from the first week of October. “The minimum charge in reputed detective agencies this year starts from Rs15,000. It goes up to Rs60,000 or more depending on the client’s demands,” explained Bhavesh Kanojia, manager (investigation) at one of the city-based agency, Globe detective agency.

According to the detectives, most parents want information about their children’s dance partners. Though the agency declined to disclose the number of such registrations, it is believed that this year there are more queries than the agencies are expecting.

Talking about the modus operandi, Kanojia said, that vigilance on one person requires at least four people, who work both in day and night shifts.

“These detectives wait in front of the client’s house and follow every activity of theirs. They are followed and observed earnestly till the last day,” he added.

Agencies post their agents at various locations in the party plots to observe their clients. “At times, the agents even come clad in Navratri attire and dance while keeping a close watch on the client,” another city-based detective agency official said.

At the time of registration of clients, the agency takes a complete interview of the parents or guardians, the official said. Approximate information about friends, family and others with whom the client may possibly go out for celebrating is also enlisted.

“Photo identity becomes a must in each case. Even photo identification of parents is taken to avoid fake registrations,” the official said.  Further, the agency also takes serious note of the children’s behaviour. “Only after extracting maximum information about the children, our investigation begins so that appropriate work is done and no false information is given,” an official from Perfect security services, a city-based detective agency said.

This apart, many small time agencies too have opened shop working only during the time of festival and a month prior to it. These small time agencies are believed to be charging lesser rates than their bigger counterparts.
